Community Newspaper in The Heart of the Hinterland
Cooroy is a rural town in Noosa Shire with a population of approximately 4,000 people. The Cooroy Rag Community Newspaper is a 3-weekly publication comprising 36-48 pages. The newspaper first published in 1961 and shares altruistic values with the greater community by giving back to local organisations and individuals in the form of community grants.
My Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Production Management skills to produce the 3-weekly 36-44 page newspaper
- Create and conceptualise newspaper advertising
- Design ads of various sizes: full page, half page, quarter page, 1-8th size, 1-16th size and trade ads
- Design and composite layout according to flat plan page imposition
- Design sections of newspaper including news, business, what’s on, social pages, sport, health, trades, classifieds and real estate
- Manage social media; create and conceptualise Facebook advertising as per Cooroy Rag brand guidelines
- Attend community events, launches and press conferences
- Work according to newspaper schedule and content marketing plan
- Work toward revenue goals
- Liaise with the committee, sales and production team, printers and advertisers
- Manage design task from initial brief to final production
Newspaper Layout and Ad Design
The editorial and layout are designed to look appealing and orderly with colourful large scale imagery. Newspaper sections are categorised i.e. News, Business, What’s On, Schools, Animals, Health, Trades and Services, Puzzles and Real Estate. Ads are designed from scratch, in a templated form or supplied as finished art by the client. Advertisers include government and local businesses.
Social Media
Photo galleries and local news is shared with the Cooroy Rag Community Newspaper Facebook database of approximately 2,800 users. It is community orientated; content is chosen to inform, inspire and represent the community as a whole.
Community Events
Pictured: Distribution Day, Grants Night, Dinner with Mayor Clare Stewart, Noosa Polo Cup Day and Christmas in Cooroy. It is great to meet the locals and enjoy some country town fun.
